Artist Statement

Courtenay Puckett, Mixed Media Artist

I create mixed media paintings by combining fabric, paper, acrylic ink, acrylic paint, and drawing materials such as charcoal, graphite, oil sticks, and conte crayons into abstracted compositions on canvas or paper.  I enjoy working in layers between the foreground and background to produce shapes and marks that correspond to the themes within each work.

I typically use symbolism within each piece to discuss Biblical themes such as redemption, hope, depravity, salvation, and peace.  It’s my aim to combine colors and artifacts in a way as to invite viewers to engage with moments of simple beauty, shared experiences, and the One who made it all.  I aim to make faith visible through my artwork.
